Will I be able to sleep?
The equipment is designed to be slept with, but it does help if you are relaxed and ready for sleep. You should avoid napping on the day of your study as well as caffeine. If you have insomnia, you may want to ask your physician for a sleeping pill (e.g. Ambien, Rozerem, Lunesta).
Will I be able to move during the night?
Yes. The electrodes are held firmly in place by a special gel and taped down, so rolling over in your sleep shouldn’t dislodge them.
Can I get out of bed during the night?
Yes. Before your electrode box (size of a VHS tape) is plugged into the computer you are able to move about freely. Once the study is started you will have to inform the technician that you would like to use the restroom so that the technician can unplug your box from the computer. There is a two-way intercom in each room as well as an infrared camera. The technicians will be able to see and hear you throughout the night.
What will happen next?
Your sleep study will be scored and analyzed by highly trained sleep technologists. Dr. Gabriele H. Barthlen, our board-certified sleep specialist will send a report with the sleep study results and treatment recommendations to your referring physician.
How long does it take for my referring physician to receive the results?
It usually takes 10 to 14 working days for your referring physician to receive the report.
